Golden Square Kindergarten Educational Philosophy (Shortened Version)

At Golden Square Kindergarten, we respectfully acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung people as the Traditional Owners of the land we learn and play on. We honour the Jaara Jaara culture through daily experiences that promote understanding, inclusion and respect.

We are guided by the principles of Belonging, Being, and Becoming from the Early Years Learning Framework. We believe children are capable, curious learners who thrive in a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment that celebrates individuality and supports each child to reach their full potential.

Children learn best through play that is creative, cooperative, and meaningful. We provide open-ended learning experiences that foster imagination, problem solving, and wellbeing—indoors and outdoors. Our curriculum reflects the work of Erik Erikson, Jean Piaget, and Lev Vygotsky, supporting children to grow emotionally, socially, and cognitively through play and relationships.

We are committed to a child-safe environment with zero tolerance for abuse. We embrace diversity and implement an anti-bias curriculum that welcomes all children, including those with additional needs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and families from culturally diverse backgrounds.

We embed social and emotional learning through programs such as You Can Do It, Sunshine Circles, Hey Warrior, and Kimochis. These help children understand and manage feelings, build resilience, and foster empathy and confidence in themselves and others.

We actively partner with families, respecting their vital role as a child’s first teacher. Together, we support each child’s journey towards a successful transition to school.

As global citizens and environmental stewards, we teach children about sustainability and our shared responsibility to care for the world around us through action, conversation, and practice.

Our philosophy is a living document. We review it regularly with our community to reflect evolving values, insights, and goals for our children’s learning and growth.
